WordPress: Featured Categories

This Customizer option allows you to select up to 4 post categories that will be featured at the top of your homepage. Each category displays the latest post from that topic automatically.

Please note:

  • You must select at least one category before this feature will work.
  • There must be at least 1 published post in a category for it to show in the options.

You can activate this feature from the “Featured Categories” tab in the Appearance > Customize section of your dashboard.

Hello my instagram header is not updating on my site with current pictures. How can I rectify this?

Hi Taylor, it seems to be working for me when I view your site. Let me know if you still need any help with that.

Hi Shana, that’s not possible at the moment but we might be able to add it in future. How many categories would you like to display?

how do I remove the date stamp from these featured posts?

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Lety, I’ve just pushed update 2.14.3 for the pipdig Power Pack. After updating, you can disable post dates in the Customizer options 🙂

Hi Hilary, this feature is mainly designed to display at the top of the homepage. As an alternative, you may wish to use this shortcode in a page.

Thanks Phil, I’ll give it a try. What is the exact name of the widget you recommend. there are several.

The “video” widget I sent a screenshot of comes with WordPress 4.8. I’d recommend updating to that by going to ‘Dashboard > Updates’ when you can 🙂

HI there, is it possible to have a video auto play when the landing page is opened? Using Crystal and trying the featured categories customization. thanks

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Frances, I’d recommend using the new Video widget that comes with WordPress. You could try placing this widget in the “Header Full Width” widget section instead of the featured categories feature. You can set that up in the ‘Appearance > Widgets’ section of your dashboard.

HI Phil, I have successfully uploaded the video and it’s working fine…except it does not auto play. Any advice? Thanks

    Hello,
I am trying to publish a post and display it under my categories. When I “customize” my site and save I can see the post, but it when i visit my site the post won’t display. I have saved it under the customize option many times but it still will not display. How do I fix this?

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Taylor, Bluehost setup caching on your site so that changes you make will not go live immediately. You may wish to contact them and ask them to disable this feature, it doesn’t work too well with blogs unfortunately.

    Hello,

Is it possible to use this feature but not right at the top.

I’d like to use it below a ‘large feature slider’

    On Equinox by the way.

    Thanks,

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Mike, unfortunately that is not possible currently, however we may be able to add that to a future update.

    2. Helen

Me too – I’m using Crystal. If there is a way to post further down under the large feature slider at some point that would be really useful.

      Thanks

      1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Helen, thanks for the feedback on this. It’s definitely something we want to add in future, so I’ll put your vote towards it.
