WordPress: Current Location Widget (map)

Ever wanted to pin your current location to make your mark on the world? Well now you can!

Using our custom build Current Location Widget allows you to display a world map on your site. To do so, follow the steps below.

How to use this widget

1. Go to Appearance > Widgets in your dashboard. Click here for more information on the widgets area.

2. Click and drag the widget called “pipdig – Current Location” to the sidebar section (or any other section you prefer).

3. Now you can enter the information for the map marker. The marker uses Latitude and Longitude to set the location. You will need to go to this page first to get the Latitude and Longitude numbers. Then it’s just a matter of copying and pasting the numbers into the widget.

4. Click save and you’re done!

Note: You can now change the color of the map and marker by going to Appearance > Customize in your dashboard. Once in the Customizer, look for the “Current Location” tab at the bottom of the options on the left.

I just discovered your themes and am impressed. I have a travel blog that needs to migrate to something, well, more sophisticated. I LOVE your current location map, but am wondering if there is a map feature that is not just one single location? For example, one blog post about Paris have a map with the dot on Paris.. while the next blog on Dublin has the dot on Dublin. Like a ‘blog location’ map. Ideally, the ability to put multiple locations, say up to 5 locations on a maps would be great, then I could provide a sleep way to show travel itineraries. Please let me know if you think this could be done. I was already leaning towards another theme when I happened across your site and fell in heart πŸ™‚

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Laura, glad to here you like our themes!

This particular widget can show a single location. However it is possible to create more complex maps using this plugin. You could create a map for each blog post with various locations, for example. You could also create a main page with a map on it, then each blog post would be linked on the map.

      1. Laura H.

Wow, thanks’ for the super quick response. And double wow with what sounds like an amazing thing to be able to do with the plugin, never head of a map that could link blog posts in a clean way. Nice! I’ll look into that plugin. I’m looking at your theme “Holly & Weave”.

        1. Phil (pipdig)

No problem! If you have any other questions you’re welcome to get in touch πŸ™‚

  2. Malie

Hello, is there anyway I can purchase the HTML code to apply the location widget even though I do not have a piddig theme?

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Malie, this is a core widget which can only be used with our themes. If you have any questions about a theme don’t hesitate to contact us.

  3. Hannah

    Hi, Phil.

I am interested in purchasing the Valentine theme, but before doing so I had a quick question. Is it a possibility to add the “Currently Location” widget to this particular theme?

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Hannah, yes you can use this widget with all of our themes πŸ™‚

  4. Inge

Hi, i’m using the aruba theme and I have a question about the current location widget… I want to show the map but not the city/country in text under the map… how can I remove that?

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Inge, if you don’t enter any text into the “Location name” option then the text won’t appear under the map. You should leave that option blank πŸ™‚

  5. Becca

I’m using the Rosalie theme, and I would love to use the “pipdig – Current Location” widget but I cannot find the page for all available themes to be able to select the “pipdig – Current Location” one.

    Please help!
I know I’ve seen the page before but now I cannot find it!!!!

    Thank you

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Becca! The information on this website is only applicable to pipdig themes. If you have any questions about a theme just let me know πŸ™‚

      1. Becca

        Ahhhhh okay Phil!
        Thank you.
I wasn’t aware – and now, me being dumb, has just figured it out.

I love the theme culture shock.
I already have a blog with WordPress. Is it easily transferable?

        1. Phil (pipdig)

No problem! It looks like you’re on wordpress.com at the moment, which means you would need to upgrade to wordpress.org first. The good news is that we can help with that process for free when you purchase a theme and your WordPress hosting plan via this page πŸ™‚

After installing one of our themes, you would get access to all the features and widgets listed on this site.

          1. Becca

Yes. I am on WordPress.com at the moment.
I have the Premium account with WordPress so that I could have my own domain.. would that change with your services etc??

Yes, I read through how you guys work and it does seem fab.
I will probably do it πŸ™‚

            1. Phil (pipdig)

You would not require the Premium plan after upgrading to wordpress.org. You automatically get all features at no extra cost. If you purchased the Premium plan within the last 30 days you’ll also receive a refund for that too. Either way, it can also be cancelled so it would not renew. Essentially the WordPress hosting replaces it.

              1. Becca

I definitely purchased the Premium plan less than 30 days ago.. so I will try and get the money back for that, that would really help!

It replaces it? Good. That’s what I was hoping you’d say!

Thanks so much for your help, I appreciate it πŸ™‚

                1. Phil (pipdig)

No problem! Once you get the refund for the premium plan you will have some spare funds for a hosting plan at SiteGround. The “StartUp” hosting package is cheaper than the premium plan πŸ™‚

Hello, What are the CSS Selectors that I can use to change the font of my set location with the Easy Google Fonts plugin?

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Tatiana, you can target the text which shows under the map using:

      .pipdig_widget_clw p

  7. Mary

I don’t see the pipdig widget to install. Is it not available?

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Mary, did you install the required plugins for the theme during this step of the setup process? If not, you can do that by going to ‘Appearance > Install Plugins’ in your dashboard.

      1. Mary

Ah do I have to have Pipdig as wordpress theme in order to install the current map locator to side bar? I have a different theme!

  8. Sarah

Hi, I am using EQUINOX and just added the location to my post, but now it only shows the location and not the category anymore. Is it possible to show both location AND category on the homepage, like http://www.fashiioncarpet.com does? Thanks!

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Sarah, unfortunately that is not possible. There is only space for the category or location.

  9. Anna

I saw in the EQUINOX example that it is possible to add a location to the posts. How would that work?

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Anna, you can add the post location via the “Extra Post Options” box in the post editor. This is near the bottom of the screen when you’re editing a blog post.

  10. Tilbe

I am using the Virtue theme is it possible for me to get this widget?

  11. Valeriia

HI, I would like ask whether it is possible to show on the map the current location, but also keep the previous one….so that we can click on different location to explore?
Also can we link the blog post with the location on the map?
If I write about India, to locate it in the map?
