Blogger: Why are images missing from some sections?

You may notice that some features on Blogger do not display a featured image for a post. This is usually caused when the images in your posts are hosted externally from Blogger. For example, the images in a post might be hosted on Flickr or Photobucket.

Blogger will only display images in a grid layout or the Popular Posts widget if it has been uploaded directly to the post content. This is a Blogger system restriction which we cannot change via the template, unfortunately.

We generally recommend that you upload all images directly to Blogger rather than hosting them externally. If this is not an option for you, then you can work around this by adding at least one image to the post that has been uploaded to Blogger. If Blogger is able to find one image within the post, it will use it, even if the remaining images are hosted externally.

Note: this is unrelated to another issue with Blogger and missing posts on the homepage. You can read about this in this article.

    Hi Phil,

I spoke to you yesterday about a problem I was having. The “About Me” section on the Blossom theme says it should only be on the homepage but it is carrying over to some other pages. I only want the About Me feature on my homepage and you said yesterday I probably can’t do that. I’ve noticed though, that the About Me is only showing up on one other page. Do you know why this is happening? Because it’s not showing up on the other pages…which is what I want…so maybe there is a way to get it off just this one page it’s still on? Also, maybe there is a code I can put in?

Hi Chelsea, would you be able to send me a link to your site so I can take a look?

I haven’t launched it yet. But do you know if there is a code I can use to hide it from the pages I don’t want it on?

        1. Phil (pipdig)

Ah ok, no problem. I wanted to take a look at your site to make sure I understood which feature you meant. Currently the Blossom “About Me” section should show on the homepage only, as well as any secondary pages (e.g. when you click “Older Posts” button).

I purchased a template from pipdig called Firefly but I’m not sure if I can use the template pictures provided on my webpage. Would that be a copyright issue or problem if I just used the pictures pipdig provided on my webpage for a blog?

Hi Gabby, you might run into some issues using the images directly from our template previews. However you may wish to use free photo stock websites such as for this purpose. This is where we source many of our images too 🙂

Hi, yesterday I purchased the template called Venture and I am facing a few problems. The sections called “Big this week” and “Recent Posts” on the top of the page are not showing any pictures, although I uploaded my pictures directly by blogger on the blogger post. The pictures from the sidebar section called “Popular posts” are missing too and it only shows the titles of the posts. Could you tell me what is causing this and what could I do to change this?

Otherwise I am very happy with my template. Also, thank you very much for your time already in advance!

Hi Josefina, thanks for purchasing a template! Would you be able to send me a link to your blog so I can take a look? I’ll see if I can spot what’s happening to the images.
