WordPress: Social Counters

All of our WordPress themes come with the ability to display social stats in your WordPress dashboard. Many of our themes also include options for displaying these stats publicly on your site. For example, you can display the counters in the footer of your site by following the steps below.

1. Firstly, make sure that you have setup the links to your social media in pipdig > Social Links (click here for more information).

2. Go to Appearance > Customize in your dashboard.

3. Look for the “General Options” tab in the list on the left. Inside this tab, enable the option highlighted below:

Note: It can sometimes take up to 24 hours for your social media stats to generate. If you find that the counters are still not working after 24 hours, please see this guide.

Hi, I’ve noticed that my blog is no longer linking to my Facebook via the social counter and I’ve got no idea how to resolve this? It’s asking me to make an app but I cannot find anything relating to my blog/API.
    Please, could you advise?
    Many thanks

Hi Katie, I suspect Facebook is starting to close down the publicly accessible data after the Cambridge Analytica scandal. The only solution currently will need to connect your site to Facebook directly by using this plugin.

Just to follow up, I think we’ve found a workaround to this. The counter will hopefully start to work again within the next 24 hours. I’d recommend waiting another day or so before installing the aforementioned plugin 🙂

Thanks so much – I’ll give it a few days and go from there.

I activated the counter since 3 days (and all my social medias) but it still doesn’t works…. can you help me please?

Hi Naomi, this unfortunately means your host is probably blocking the connection. You can work around that via this plugin.

Everytime I change the colour of my header (the menu at the top), the footer automatically changes to the same colour too, is there a way to change the footer so it’s just black, rather than the same colour as my header if that makes sense?

    Thank you,
    Ayesha

Do you have an option to say follow us on twitter, instagram, facebook, etc. So instead of a counter it says to follow each account in a widget?

Hi Eve, if you add the CSS from this page to the “Additional CSS” tab in the Customizer it will remove the counts. So it just leaves the link to your social channels.

You could also use this widget as an alternative.
