Blogger: How to install a custom domain

A custom domain name can really help to give your blog a more professional look, as well as making your blog much easier to remember. For example, can be turned into

You can purchase any domain you like, from any website you prefer (so long as it is not already taken). We tend to recommend GoDaddy because their control panel is easy to use and their prices are very competitive. You can pick up a .com domain for $1 on this page. Please note this is an affiliate link …we earn a few pennies if you purchase there 🙂

After you have purchased your domain, you can then install it on your Blogger account via this guide.

Hi, I want to create a new blog. Do I need to create the new blog first and then purchase the domain name? Or can I purchase the domain name and then start creating my blog?

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi there! You can purchase the domain name any time in future. It is not required to get started with the blog 🙂

I would like to buy a template but I prefer not to have a personal domain. It’s possible?
    Thanks for your help.

So I just paid for the domain but seems like it cannot be used for Blogger or at least I can’t find how to do it. And if it can’t be done why you put an example with Blogger?

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Valerie, you can install any domain you like on Blogger. I’d recommend contacting Godaddy support so they can help you connect it to your account.

Hi, I tried setting custom domain with the help of the page you linked but it seems that go daddy has changed its dashboard. Still, I managed to locate the “manage DNS” option and tried to add CNAME records but after adding First CNAME record, it doesn’t let me add another, there’s no option and my whole process comes to standstill 🙁
Don’t you guys offer setting up custom domain service after purchasing one of your themes anymore?

    Thank you 🙂

Unfortunately we’re no longer able to install domains on behalf of other people due to changes at Blogger and Godaddy. However if you contact Godaddy’s support team they will be able to help you 🙂

Thank you so much for replying so quick 🙂 I’ll try to install disqus, set up my custom domain and also purchase one of your themes but you’ve such an amazing collection, It’s difficult to choose one theme 🙂

    1. Phil (pipdig)

No problem, Aditi! On thing to make sure is that you install your domain name before connecting to Disqus. It will work better that way 🙂

      1. aditi

I was about to go ahead with disqus first, once again thank you for your advice 🙂

Hi, I’ve read about your free installation service after purchasing one of the themes, can pipdig also help in installing disqus in blogger? I’m just too scared to lose existing comments.

    Thank you 🙂

    1. Phil (pipdig)

Hi Aditi, we wouldn’t be able to install Disqus as part of our free installation service. However, there is no risk of losing your comments when you setup Disqus via their installer. The comments are imported to Disqus, but they are not deleted from your original Blogger account. So if anything goes wrong, you can always remove Disqus and your Blogger comments will be returned 🙂
